Route: San Bernardino 9 Peaks Traverse (CA)

Location
California, US
Distance
29 mi
Vertical Gain
8,400 ft
Description

This can be run as a Loop or Point-to-Point.

Lisa Green described the Loop:

Started at the Vivian Creek trailhead, summited all 9 peaks, from the final summit of East San Bernadino peak I backtracked to rejoin the main trail and then took the (very overgrown) Momyer trail back down the forest falls road, and ran a short road section back to the Vivian Creek TH.

The Point-to-Point route is described here and here:

The 9 Peak Traverse is a 27 mile point to point route with about 9,000 feet of climbing. The route meanders along the top of the San Bernardino mountain range on the San Bernardino Peak Divide Trail, passing 9 peaks all of which are over 10,000 feet and include a summit of San Gorgonio, the highest mountain in Southern California at 11,500 feet. We started at the Vivian Creek trail-head and finished at the Angeles Oaks trail-head.

 The 9 Peaks:

San Gorgonio (11,500’)
Jepson (11,205’)
Little Charlton (10,676’)
Charlton (10,806’)
Alto Diablo (10,563’)
Shields Peak (10,701’)
Anderson Peak (10,864’)
San Bernardino East Peak (10,691’)
San Bernardino Peak (10,649’)

Hello, I will be giving the San Bernardino 9 Peaks Traverse a try on late July or early August. I will confirm the date and time of day in the next few weeks. I've been hiking and running in the San Gorgonio Mountains for a long time now, and of course, running the 9 peaks traverse in a single shot has been in my mind. This will be a self-supported effort. I will record the time and distance using my GPS Suunto Ambit 3 watch.

I will start at the Vivian Creek trail head and will finish, I hope in one piece, at the Angeles Oaks trail head. Any advice for this attempt is welcome. Thanks and will post date and time pretty soon. I can be reach at caeargaliano@yahoo.com

Thank you

Looking to attempt the loop, on July 12 or 18, 2020.  Shooting to bring this down under 10 hours.

Using my Garmin Forerunner 935.  I've done the ascent/descent before, will be my first time on the traverse.  Unsupported.
