Description

The Upper Charles Trail is still in development and will one day total 24 miles, connecting the towns of Milford, Ashland, Sherborn, Holliston, Framingham, and Hopkinton along a former railroad bed. As of May 2020, more than 13 miles of the trail are complete. The route begins in Hopkinton off of Cedar St. The route travels into Milford, there are a few road crossings and sections along sidewalks. The first 6.5 miles or so are paved, the remainder of the rail trail through Holliston are on hard packed dirt. The rail trail travels under the Phipps Tunnel and over the Bogastow Brook Viaduct. The trail passes through the Dopping Brook Wetlands and the trail turns to single track and then returns to rail road until Whitney Street in Sherborn. Right now the trail leaves the rail line and goes up into a small housing community to get to Whitney St.
