Description

Incredible tour of many alpine lakes located in the Wallowa Whitman National Forest. Starting at Wallowa Lake Trailhead head out on East Fork toward Aneroid Lake. Continue on over Polaris Pass while swinging by Frazier Lake and Glacier Lake. At Glacier Lake you get an incredible view of Eagle Cap. Moving forward climb over Glacier Pass and then descend into the Lake's Basin area where you will enjoy Moccasin Lake, Lep Lake, and finally Horseshoe Lake. Then it is a beautiful descent out of Lake's Basin back towards the Wallowa Lake Trailhead via the West Fork trail.

Nicole Cleveland submitted a shorter 27 mile lollipop loop that sticks to the West Fork basin of the Wallowa River:

Awesome loop trail in the Eagle Cap Wilderness area with beautiful high mountain lakes. You will usually encounter a couple backpackers, but after the first eight miles it is mostly solitary running. Great loop for single female trail runners because it isn't overly used, but you do usually encounter a few other people which can be helpful if you are  apprehensive about getting out there solo!
