Description

The Wauponsee Glacial Trail is a condensed slice of the way urban northern Illinois so quickly changes to prairie. Starting on the north end, there is a short glimpse of industrial Joliet, then suburbs, then wide open prairie. The middle section of the trail is wide open, with little to no tree cover, providing a 360 degree horizon to gaze upon as the miles go by. As it approaches the Kankakee River in the south, it becomes a green tunnel (in the summer) and passes through several small farm communities.
