Description

North Dorset Trailway, between Sturminster Newton and Spetisbury.  About 14 miles.  The Trailway is largely made up of sections of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway which linked Bristol and Bournemouth until the 1960s.  The North Dorset Trailway Network aims to extend the trail, so the route may change.

Currently the Trailway stops at Surminster Newton / Spetisbury. I'll explore the section further North, but as far as I'm aware the extension is still currently a proposal.

This will make a fun one way or out & back challenge for us locals!

Hey Jon,

Thinking about giving this route a go Sunday for the one way, the start is up in Sturminster Newton and finish in Spetisbury?

Thanks, Luke

Having a go at this route this week, Sturminster Newton to Spetisbury. Hope the storms don’t get in the way too much!

Editor's note:

On 29 September 2022 Nik Darlington ran the course in 1h 18m 49s, and had this to say:

"Less than a minute behind the FKT, went out hard but steady and in touch for much of it but standing water and muddy conditions between Sturminster Newton and Shillingstone, and especially the last few miles between Blandford and Spetisbury mostly uphill put paid to the challenge. Went for one final roll of the dice through Blandford but my race was run."

You can see Nik's run here: https://www.strava.com/activities/8306230817/overview

Does the route now start at Stalbridge?

I see that other runners have started at Sturminster Newton, but when I download the GPX it starts at Stalbridge instead, so I wondered if the route had changed?

Thanks
