Location
Massachusetts, US
Distance
61.49 mi
Vertical Gain

Description

Running the entire outer perimeter loop of Martha’s Vineyard (including Chappaquidick Island). No running on pavement, asphalt or docks—sand, rocks and dunes only. You will need to swim across the channels, cuts and pond openings, as well as swimming to Chappaquidick and across the gut to the outer sandbar.  No bridges, no canoes.

The Alternate Route adds approximately 6mi to the route but deviates by running around Oak Bluffs Harbor and Little Beach. Check the GPX file for specifics.

I'm going to give this route a try next week, walking around the island has been a dream of mine since high school here. Thanks for trailblazing Paul and Michael!

Update- I made it 33 miles and 11 hours on Monday before the heat got to me. Such an awesome route though and I'll try it again at some point.

For anyone trying this route- I ended up bringing a dry bag and parachute cord which I towed behind me with my running vest and shoes for all the swims. It worked surprisingly well and looked totally insane I'm sure.
