Route: Mt Shavano (CO)

Location
Colorado, US
Distance
9 mi
Vertical Gain
4,500 ft
Description

Mt Shavano is a popular Colorado 14er.  It is the southernmost 14er in the Sawatch Range, and the southernmost 14er of Nolans 14.  It is most often climbed together with it's near neighbor Mt Tabeguache, but this route page is for the ascent and round trip of Shavano only.  Note that there is a Strava segment for the ascent of Shavano from the Colorado Trail, but the FKT route starts & ends at the trailhead.

Shavano - Tabeguache is a popular combination since by adding a short distance and a little vertical gain you can get two 14ers for the price of one.  This combo also has a Strava segment .... which unfortunately does not start/end at the TH (which the FKT does).

Editor's Note: Many Colorado 14ers should not be considered “backcountry” where you can go anywhere you want; their popularity can create a plethora of braided social paths that lasts for decades in the fragile tundra.  So if there is a trail, please stay on it. Hundreds of volunteers with the Fourteeners Initiative work really hard to protect our beloved mountain environment.
