Description

Nesodden is an idyllic peninsula sitting in the Oslo fjord in Norway. It is shaped like an arrow, its tip pointing the way to Oslo, the capital of Norway, 20 minutes away by sea. In fact, most of the twenty thousand people lucky enough to live on Nesodden, commute by ferry to Oslo and back everyday. They think it is one of the world's more beautiful commutes. Not many bother with the hour it takes to drive -- half the time in the opposite direction of Oslo just to get off the peninsula! Many of us runners here wonder: None of us has thought to run to work, and why the heck not? So what better than a FKT to get us going?

The route is from "Nesoddtangen brygge", the ferry port at the tip of Nesodden, to "Aker brygge", where the ferry docks in Oslo -- by road. The first half of the run is on the peninsula, through pastures, down and up a valley, then sharp twists down to the bridge that gets you off the peninsula. On the mainland, a short 5km leads you to the southern tip of a long lake (blue water, blue sky) that takes you to the coast that is the Eastern arm of Oslo. Past fjord beaches, docks and a view of a peninsula sitting in the fjord, and the tip of Nesodden from whence you came. The last 5 km is through the city past the Opera house and harbour, the town hall and, finally, Aker brygge, the port where commuters from Nesodden land to start their days work.
