Description

The Rainy Lake Trail is a paved, multi-use trail that connects Voyageurs National Park with International Falls, considered the icebox of the nation and the starting point of the Arrowhead 135. The trail follows the southern shoreline of Rainy River and Rainy Lake, going through woodlands, marshlands and lakefront neighborhoods. The Rainy River separates Minnesota and Ontario.

The western terminus is just east of the International Falls Chamber of Commerce, next to the train tracks. The eastern terminus is at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center in Voyageurs National Park, located on a peninsula in Rainy Lake. On the trail you’ll go through rocky forests of Whitepines and closer to town you’ll pass the world’s largest pulpwood storage yard, where wood is stored for the town’s paper making business. You’ll also pass under a pipeline used by the papermill. You can hear pulp (from the trees) and water going through the pipeline.
