Description

Wissahickon Valley Park is made up of 57 miles of trails. The Wissahickon is a lush, 1,800-acre gorge, crossing forest and meadow before plunging down to the sun-dappled waters of the Wissahickon Creek. Visitors find themselves lost in a feeling of wilderness as they walk, bike or ride horses through this undisputed gem of Philadelphia’s park system.

This route is within the Wissahickon Valley Park located within the city limits of Philadelphia. The route traces the perimeter of the Wissahickon park by following the upper/outer trails - white, lavender and yellow blazed trails. It may be run clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Start/Finish in front of the entrance to Valley Green Inn - Valley Green Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19128. Valley Green Inn is also the halfway point. You'll pass near the Inn halfway through the run with the option of using your car as an aid station. Though you'll have to rejoin the course where you left.

I have been having fun with this loop the last two weeks. Last week, I did the loop clockwise (starting at Ridge, not Valley Green) but bonked towards the end. The time would have been around 3:48 if I did it correctly.

This morning I went and ran the loop CCW (with some added distance to make a more solid perimeter) in 3:16:52. Unfortunately, it did not register on the Strava segment leaderboard because my watch crapped out toward the end and also didn't count the last 0.3 or so. The FKT is on my to-do list in the near future; I'm not sure if I can do it, though. Maybe I can if I take the FKT runners' route, which is much simpler.

This really is an awesome route; thanks to whoever put this together. Here is my run: Wissful Thinking | Run | StravaÂ
