Submitted by pbakwin on Wed, 01/03/2018 - 08:13am
Description

The Manitou Incline, near Manitou Springs, Colorado, was constructed as a funicular in 1907. It operated until 1990, when a rock slide washed out the rail bed. Since then it has been used for hiking, and has become a very popular test piece for endurance athletes. The Incline starts at 6600 feet elevation and gains 2000 feet in roughly a mile. The old railway ties form many steps along the route.

Submitted by pbakwin on Tue, 01/02/2018 - 12:26pm
Description

The Glacier Gorge Traverse and Rossiter's "Walk in the Park" are two related routes in Rocky Mountain National Park. They cover some of the same terrain, but they are different. The naming is confusing since the "Walk in the Park" traverses Glacier Gorge proper, while the Glacier Gorge Traverse encompasses Glacier Gorge, Loch Vale, Chaos Canyon and Tyndall Gorge.

The Rainbow Trail is one of the longer hiking trails in Colorado, after the Colorado Trail and the Colorado section of the CDT. It runs roughly parallel to the Sangre de Christo mountains in the South Central part of the state, starting at one end south of Westcliffe and at the other end south west of Salida, forming an upside-down J. The trail is roughly 100 miles long with around 24,000 ft of gain according to a TOPO! map of the route.
