This is a fascinating challenge and could technically be done anywhere with 3 individual 6000m mountains. This was first done (to my knowledge) by legendary climber Christian Stangl in 16 hours, 16 minutes. The idea was to reach the summit and descend from three different 6000m+ mountains. I proposed the following standardizing rules ahead of my 2022 attempt.

1. Route must go to the summit of 3 different peaks

2. Route must have at least 1000m of net gain per summit

'Arrieros Route' or 'Yumbos' trail' or 'Liquior Smuggling track'. In the pre-Incan period, The Yumbos (800 AD) used this trail system for trading products between the coastal and mountain regions of the country. Later this route was occupied by the Spanish conquerors, loggers, and liquor dealers hauling a liquor derived from sugar cane with caravans of oxen and mules and farmers in the area.

Awesome run to the summit of Haleakala Volcano! Lots of Vert and Vews. Pack lots of water and rain gear as the mountain can change at anytime. Also sun screen is a must even when its cloudy. At 10,000ft the sun is brutal and you will get sunburnt. You will need Goat legs for this 8,000ft brutal climb. Not for the average day hiker. Bring lots of fuel and salt. Expect 7-9 hours depending on weather and you legs! All roads and trails are open to the public and well maintained.

This route has historically been done for speed from the bottom of the bridge on the lake side.  Carly Wynn ran this in high school (July 6, 2010) in 25:02 and descended in 14:02 minutes (49:04).  Per Aaron Newell: "It was buried in my HS training logs and an enjoyable trip down memory lane."  There is not a GPS tracing available but for integrity of the route, this should be considered the time to beat!
