Dalton Highway (AK)

Description

The Dalton Highway stretches 414 miles (666 km) from Livengood, AK (a ghost town ~70 miles north of Fairbanks) to Prudhoe Bay, AK (an oil town on the Arctic Ocean). The high point is Atigun Pass at 4,739 ft (1,444 m) in the Brooks Range. The Dalton Highway was built from 1974-1977 to parallel the trans-Alaska oil pipeline.

Description

All 13 peaks higher than 2000m, from Abisko to Kvikkjokk.

The route starts out together with the major trail Kungsleden, but soon deviates into a rocky valley and heads for Kebenekaise mountain range. After summiting 5 of the peaks, trails will take you to Ritsem and the lake Akkajaure which is crossed by boat or helicopter. The next part will take you through and over the wild Sarek national park, to finally end up in Kvikkjokk by rejoining with the Kungsleden trail.
