Maricopa County is dedicated to enhancing lifestyles, managing cultural resources, and providing a legacy for future generations. In February 2000, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors formed the Maricopa County Trail Commission and unveiled their plans to develop a Regional Trail System. The trail system plan was compiled in three stages over a period of nearly five years. It represents a comprehensive system of non-motorized trail corridors that will help guide the planning process as Maricopa County moves through the 21st Century.

This route travels along the main public perimeter/outer-most roads of the Island. It also include the length of Kuebler Trail on the west side of the Island. Since there are several options for roads on the north side of the Island, the main Donegal Bay Road will be used as the "perimeter" for the northern boundary and the route does not go around the harbor in town. This is a fairly obvious loop when you look at a map of the island.

Der Rundweg beginnt am Parkplatz Tenohütte im Wald und führt zunächst bergab über den Mallmannsteinweg nach Glashütten. An der Hauptstraße geht es in nördlicher Richtung weiter bis an die Kreuzung zum Dornsweg, wo sich gleichzeitig der Startpunkt des WaldGlasWegs befindet. Dieser beleuchtet mit seinen sieben Stationen interessante Aspekte der Taunus-Geschichte näher: Die spätmittelalterliche Glasproduktion in den Glashöfen, die Glashütten seinen Namen verliehen hat. Mehrere Stationen sind mit künstlerischen Glasinstallationen im Wald gestaltet.
