Große Gesäuseüberschreitung (Austria)

Description

The traverse of the Hochtorgruppe: Großer Ödstein - Planspitze, 14,6km/2465m D+/2822m D-/UIAA3. The official Route starts in Johnbach (parking lot before the gravel road) and ends at Kummerbrücke. 
First you climb Großer Ödstein via Kirchengrat, then you climb Festkogel, Hochtor (highest point of the traverse), Rosskuppe and the last summit Planspitze. Afterwards down to the Kummerbrücke via Wasserfallweg, a really steep and technical downhill.

While most of the country was preparing to party on the eve of the new Millenium in 1999, Nigel Jenkins of Axe Valley Runners had a different sort of celebration in mind. In horrendous weather he was out on Dartmoor, southern England's most remote and open space, notching up the first completion of a new round.
