Mount Umunhum (CA)

Description

Mount Umunhum (Ohlone, meaning resting place of the hummingbird) is the fourth-highest peak in California's Santa Cruz Mountains (after Loma Prieta, Crystal Peak, and Mt. Chual). The mountain is situated in Santa Clara County, south of San Jose. Most of the mountain is within the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. The mountain is topped by an eight and a half story (84.5 feet tall) concrete radar tower (5 floors interior), known locally as "the Cube" or "the Box". The tower was part of Almaden Air Force Station, a radar surveillance post which operated from 1958 to 1980.

Monte San Vicino (Italy)

Description

A peak of 1213m near Matelica.  For the ascent from town, start at the bottom of SP90, under the arches of an old railway bridge to the right of the SP256, and just follow the road to the Prati di San Vicino, and then go on the trail to the cross at the top.  15km with over 1000m ascent.  There is a Strava segment.

Episode 78: Amanda Basham & Justin Grunewald: on the Kalalau Trail

Amanda and Justin were in Kauai to run the Kalalau Trail and thought to check it out. Ill prepared for the humidity, Amanda nonetheless decided to go for the FKT, and succeeded. Justin accompanied her going out (so she is listed as Supported) but then then fell apart from the heat.

"We were all wondering, 'where's Justin'? He was two hours late getting back."

Three days later he felt better, going an hour faster than Amanda and establishing the Male FKT.
