The Massanutten Mountain Trail is a National Recreation Trail. It is a 71-mile loop in the George Washington National Forest, on the ridgelines of the eastern and western ranges of the Massanutten Mountain. According to the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club (VHTRC): "The 'trail' is hard, rocky, and slow.
The Ozark Highlands Trail stretches 200+ miles through northwest Arkansas. It was built, and is maintained, by the Ozark Highlands Trail Association.
The Ouachita National Recreation Trail stretches 223 miles through the Ouachita Mountains, from Talimena State Park in Oklahoma to Pinnacle Mountain State Park in Arkansas. More information and maps are available from the U.S. Forest Service https://www.fs.usda.gov/
The Tuscarora Trail is a rugged, 250-mile long side trail of the Appalachian Trail though portions of Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. The southern terminous is in Shenandoah National Park.
The Benton MacKaye Trail is a relatively new route that opened on July 16, 2005. It runs 288 miles from Springer Mountain, GA (also the southern terminous of the Appalachian Trail), to Big Creek in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The trail was created by the Benton MacKaye Trail Association.
The Pinhoti Trail is a 335-mile long National Recreation trail through Alabama and Georgia. The northern terminus is in north west Georgia, near the town of Blue Ridge, where it intersects with the Benton MacKaye Trail.
