Coal and Coke Trail

Description

The Coal and Coke Trail connects the small towns of Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale in western Pennsylvania. These towns have a long history of coal mining, with Scottdale being home to over 30,000 coke ovens that provided coke to the nearby steel industry in Pittsburgh and Mt. Pleasant being a mining town for many years. The trail showcases both the natural beauty of the area and the remnants of the now defunct coal mining industry in the area, providing an interesting juxtaposition that is representative of the region as a whole.
