The route is an out & back of the paved paths of the North Branch Trail system, reaching from northern end of Chicago to the botanic gardens in Skokie. Out & back on the Red trail, and complete loop of the Black trail (36.4 miles total) on this map:
VARIATION: There is now a Variation which is the same trail one way from Chicago to Northbrook:

I'm planning on attempting this route this upcoming Sunday. I will attempt this Self supported and document the attempt via garmin and strava along with pictures and social media updates along the route.
I will be completing the out and back July 31st. July 30th if I get antsy.
On May 21st, I will be attempting an FKT on the 36.4 out and back route, to hopefully beat the current time set by Tommy Crawford and Mark Eisenman.
Update: I've moved my planned attempt to Sunday, May 22nd, due to weather.
