Description

The Farmington Canal Heritage Trail is an 54.5 mile paved multi-use rail trail located in Connecticut, traveling from the Yale Campus in New Haven, CT to the MA border in Southwick MA.  Once entering MA the trail changes names to the Southwick Trail and goes onto connect to other trails.

The trail was built on former New Haven and Northampton Company (NH&N) (later New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad [NH]) railbed, which was constructed along the route of the Farmington Canal in Connecticut.

The sections from New Haven to Tariffville totaling 47.6 miles (76.6 km) are part of the East Coast Greenway, a 32 percent completed trail intended to link Maine with Florida.

The trail currently includes a rather ugly road section along RT 10 in Southington and Plainville, but other than that is a nice route. It is pretty darn flat and mostly shaded and travels from the MA border in CT to the Yale campus in New Haven CT. The trail is a popular biking and running location for many, and allows one to neatly cleave the state of CT on a paved trail.

Gonna give this route a shot this weekend going for the out and back supported. I’ve never seen the trail so this should be interesting

Is there really no fkt for unsupported? For either out and back or one way? I plan on doing unsupported in 2 and a half weeks.
