Description

Damavand (5609m) is the highest peak in Iran.  It is a classic stratovolcano.  Summitpost has good information.  Damavand can be climbed from the North, North-east, West or South, but the southern route seems to be the most popular.  The route begins at Güsfandsara Shelter, at around 3000m at the end of a driveable dirt road.
