The Caribou-Speckled Wilderness Area was established in 1990 and is entirely in the state of Maine.  At 11,000 acres, it’s the state’s largest wilderness area and both of these routes take you over the area’s two namesakes:

Starting and ending at the pavement on top of historic Teton Pass, this short but stout run climbs 1700 feet over roughly .9 miles at an average grade of 33.6%. Known as one of the most popular and accessible backcountry boot packs in the United States, it doesn’t see as much travel during the summer season. Hopefully that changes!
