The GR 42 is a spectacular 450 km long-haul path winding from the rugged heights of the Massif Central to the wild wetlands of the Camargue. Starting in Saint‑Étienne, an emblem of 19ᵉ-century industry, you immediately enter the Pilat Regional Nature Park, where oak and conifer forests, as well as alpine flora like arnica and martagon lilies, paint a vivid ecological tapestry.

Der Mittelweg führt von Pforzheim auf die Höhen zwischen Enz- und Nagoldtal. Durch weite Wälder und vorbei an den Hochmooren des Buntsandsteinschwarzwaldes geht es nach Freudenstadt. Im Mittleren Schwarzwald erschließt der Mittelweg die bäuerliche Kulturlandschaft. Von den Bergen des Hochschwarzwaldes wird der östlichste, der Hochfirst, berührt. Im Südschwarzwald taucht der Mittelweg in die Felsentäler von Schwarza und Schlücht (westliche Variante) und Mettma (östliche Variante) und erreicht den Hochrhein bei Waldshut.

Si le tracé ne présente pas de difficulté technique majeure, il reste exigeant : relances fréquentes, portions goudronnées et faux plats cassants mettront votre endurance à l’épreuve.

Ce parcours vous plonge au cœur des paysages typiques de la Gâtine : chemins blancs bordés de haies, vallons verdoyants, ruisseaux et plaines agricoles rythment le parcours autour du lac de la Touche Poupard et de villages comme Clavé, La Marotière ou Saint-Georges-de-Noisné.
