The trail begins at the East Rim parking lot, at checkpoint 10. The trail begins descending down the canyon, crossing a stream with a man-made bridge. Cross the creek, then ascend to the top of the western rim of the canyon. Once on top of the Rim, you will follow the trail using the yellow diamond markings posted on trees along the way. When you get to checkpoint 3, go left at the fork. Do not go right and over the bridge. Stay left. You will have to cross one creek with no bridge along the way.

This is a long distance hike created to show of the beauty of the nature park de Wijers located in Limburg, Belgium. It consists of smaller patches of forest and moorland and connects the uncountable lakes in the region. Wijers is what the lakes are called locally, they are ponds us for breading fish. The old name of the park used to be Park Midden Limburg.

The 100 kilometre AhrSteig route leads from the Ahr Spring to its estuary. Not only is the AhrSteig a demanding hiking route but a stunning area full of natural beauty and landmarks, studded with cultural treasures. Impressive views of the romantic Ahr area from its valley to its peaks make the AhrSteig a unique place to visit.
