This approx. 42 mile route touches 4 states (PA, MD, WV & VA) while following the Appalachian Trail. A map is here.
saranaclake.com describes the Challenge as follows:
The 6ers are what we call the six highly climbable mountains that ring the village of Saranac Lake. The Adirondacks are known for its mountain hiking, and it's human nature to create "sets" for achievement purposes. There's the 46 High Peaks that are over 4,000 feet in height. Thus inspired, we have created what has turned out to be a very popular way for people to enjoy our kinder, gentler peaks.

This route covers some prime terrain over the rugged Blackhead range that intersects with the Escarpment trail. It includes the summits of Camel's Hump, Thomas Cole, Black Dome, and Blackhead mountains. Instead of a straight out and back, I ran down the Black Dome trail to the Batavia Kill trail to include the ascent of Blackhead from the Escarpment trail. The FKT covers 5100' of climb over 13 miles. I ran it in 2:25:27 on 6/26/16.
It's approximately 75 miles from the wooden sign at the NC/GA border near Bly Gap to Springer Mountain with about 19,000 ft of elevation gain.
Eli Dickerson reported:
This is a common out and back for trail runners [about 16 miles total], so I thought I'd set the bar with my fastest time. I know there's probably others who have run faster, so hoping they post up! It's a fun stretch of trail for sure.
