Cerro Goye
Cerro Goye is a popular peak for trail runners in Bariloche. It provides a less-steep, more runnable alternative to some of the surrounding peaks. The first mile or so is up a Jeep road. From there, you will see a tree labeled with "Goye" pointing you to the left. It is a pretty cruisy, enjoyable run up through the forest. When you reach the saddle, turn left towards the summit. There are several bumps along the ridgeline, but the highest point is very evident and marked with a cairn. Make sure you touch the true summit! The run down is fast and fun.
Three Passes (Arthur's Pass NZ)
The “Three Passes” trip between the Waimakariri and Kokatahi, West Coast has been a Canterbury staple for almost 100 years. It is just as popular today in the modern era as it was back in the age of exploration.
From the stony riverbeds of the Waimakariri, to the icy Whitehorn Glacier and hanging alpine lake Browning, and into the lush West Coast River valleys, this quintessential traverse involves crossing the Southern Alps three times through a myriad of landscapes, climates and ecosystems.
Cerro Lopez
If you are looking for vert in Bariloche, Cerro Lopez is the peak for you. There are multiple ways up, as it is close to the popular 4 Refugios Trek. An alternative route variation could be the north ridge, which is a scramble with a brief via ferrata section. There is a segment for this ridge on Strava (subida Palotinos).
Aoraki/Mt Cook Grand Traverse
The most sought after alpine route in New Zealand?
Remarkables Grand Traverse
One of the most classic single day alpine routes in New Zealand alpine climbing. The Grand Traverse of Single & Double Cone is a steep committing alpine ridge line suitable for climbers with previous mountaineering & rock climbing experience.
Cerro Bella Vista
Cerro Bella Vista is one of the most commonly climbed peaks along the Bariloche skyline. Situated in the middle, it provides great views of the ski resort and surrounding mountains, hence the name Bella Vista. It is almost a perfect VK course, albeit on very dusty and root-y terrain. Starting at the trailhead for Refugio Jakob, the route begins with a short flatter run up to the trail junction, where you will turn right at the sign. From there, the route maintains a pretty steep grade the entire way. Upon topping out at treeline, there is some loose gravel that requires a bit of effort.
