Sugarloaf Trail is a classic of Ohiopyle State Park. It is the rockier, muddier, cousin of Baughman Trail, with a longer ascent to boot. Baughman Trail and Sugarloaf Trail begin at the same location, just across from the Middle Yough takeout on the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail in Ohiopyle, Pa.

In the city of Edmonds, there is a saying, “It’s an Edmonds kind of day!” You can find it on bumper stickers, t-shirts, and coffee mugs. Although 9 months out of the year our days in the Pacific Northwest seem gray and gloomy, we find the beauty in our city’s identifying features, such as the seagulls, water ferry, and Olympic Mountain Range across the water.

Start at the gate on Whitney Portal Road near the Meysan Lake Trailhead. Run up the road to the the start of the Whitney Main Trail TH. Run up to Lonepine Lake. Get off the trail and start the ascent of the North Face of Candlelight Peak. Summit Candlelight Peak and then drop down into the Meysan Lake Basin. Run the Meysan Lake Trail back to the starting point.
