Starting from Red Box Picnic area, runners follow Strawberry Peak trail out to the summit of the mountain. After gaining the summit, continue west along the ridge to some Class III scrambling down. Stay high on the northwest ridge to avoid getting lost on the steep southwest face. After descending the scramble, follow the ridge as it arcs southwest to the Josephine Saddle. The route is clear the entire way despite the growth of brush along the ridge! After meeting up with Colby Canyon Trail, ascend the fire road to Josephine Peak.
