Description

The 5.3 miles climb up Saddleback Mountain starts northbound at the Appalachian Trail crossing on route 4 in Sandy River Plantation, Maine. The first 2 miles climbs gradually over moderately technical terrain, passing many large boulders and caves. Then the trail starts climbing steadily and steeply over rocks and boulders. Footing is very challenging. About a mile from the summit the trail rises above tree line and continues to climb over rugged alpine terrain. The panoramic views are well worth the effort.
