Description

This is a classic Sisters, Oregon trail, and an old unmaintained OHV/mountain biking route which was decommissioned for OHV use. Mostly rolling terrain through dense brush and open forest, views are limited but include glimpses of Mt Washington, North Sister, and Black Butte. Most of the trail is quite soft and covered with pine cones, pine needles, and occasional rocks. You will likely be alone out here. The trail winds it’s way clockwise toward Black Butte, then behind Garrison Butte, then past Cougar Rock, and makes its way up the biggest climb before descending to the finish.

Description

The Ironstone Loop is a 14.6 mile route through Rothrock State Forest. It was first created by Tom Thwaites, father of Pennsylvania's Mid State Trail. It traverses old rail beds, winding singletrack, stone stairs, and soaring ridges. It also snakes its way around Lake Perez, home of Shaver's Creek Environmental Center. A classic Pennsylvania route, it has a little bit of everything - rocks, roots, streams, laurel, and hemlock trees.
