The Shining Sea Bikeway follows the route of a former railroad line run by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company, which ran service to New York and Boston from 1872 to 1965. After the railroad company discontinued service along the line, local residents Joan Kanwisher, Barbara Burwell (mother of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s cofounder David Burwell), and several other supporters organized in a nine-year-long effort to have the village of Woods Hole acquire the land and build a trail, which officially opened in June 1974. 

Rennsteig is a famous hiking trail over the Thuringian Forest beginning in Hörschel to Blankenstein on the river Saale.

The Ouse Valley Way is an established 150-mile trail in England, following the River Great Ouse from its source near Syresham in Northamptonshire to its mouth in The Wash near 

Mountain, Forest, Plains, City & Coast - the entire unmarked county unitary authority boundary in one go. The route stitches together a mixture of unmarked trails, national footpath routes and road to complete the first known circumnavigation of the Welsh Capital City's Border. Previously thought to be unpassable as an entire route, the all terrain course required meticulous pre-planning combined with last minute 'on the go' revisions to counter the difficult autumnal conditions (with Storm Aiden causing complete inaccessibility to some river crossings).

Der Weg von Enger nach Bielefeld-Schildesche führt in welligem Terrain größtenteils durch kleine Wäldchen und über Felder, vorbei an Bächen und Teichen. Der Weg ist durchgängig mit "Hp" markiert.
