Run into the heart of the Ansel Adams Wilderness area to the divide separating Yosemite National Park and the Merced River watershed. You will catch glimpses of Lyell Canyon to the North and Mammoth, the Volcanic Ridge, and the backside of the Minarets to the East.  This route avoids most of the Creek Fire devastation, dryness, and sun exposure found just a couple of miles over. You will travel past Slab Lakes and then higher to the Three D(rainage) Divide up to the top of Triple Divide Peak. That's a lot of D's! Both are class 2 and feature mostly talus.

Big Chiwaukum is the high point of the Chiwaukum Mountains, tucked between the Enchantments and Stevens Pass – an alpine scramble with beautiful views, without the major crowds of its more famous neighbors.

This route is a loop that begins and ends at the Teton Canyon Trailhead. The following describes the route if completed clockwise. At the 1 mile mark you veer left onto Roaring Creek Trail as you begin your climb to Hurricane Pass. Near the 4.5 mile mark you’ll hit Hurricane Pass and begin your decent going south towards Sunset Lake. Passing Sunset Lake and immediately after crossing the creek you will veer right onto an unmarked but clear trail that will be your decent onto the South Teton/Buck Mnt Pass trail.
