I've always loved the first glimpse of the Sawtooth Peaks as I drive into the valley, and McGown Peak serves as a majestic cornerstone to the range. Many of the routes in the Sawtooth's tend to be on the longer, more extreme side, so I decided to create one that was a bit more "tame" while also hitting some of the highlights of the range. That being said, this route is no cakewalk, and should only be undertaken by someone with strong ankles and a willingness to push hard on technical climbs and descents!

The Schluchtensteig is 118,9km in length and has 3379m of elevation gain and is officially one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany as it is one of the "Top Trails of Germany". It winds its way across the Southern Black Forest Nature Park, past thundering waterfalls, on viewing platforms, through breathtaking gorges and dramatic valley landscapes.

Trail from Tilbury train station to Leigh-on-Sea train staion via Tilbury Fort, Coalhouse Fort, Hadleigh Castle and vaious nature reserves along the South Essex Marshes. The trail passes historic sites, industrial areas, nature reserves - mud flats and salt marshes, which are great for birds - and marinas. Lovely views of Kent and along the Thames.
