Description

Mount Deception is the second highest peak in the Olympic Mountain Range at 7788 ft, second only to Mount Olympus, and the 17th most prominent peak in Washington (4108 ft). The fastest way there is to start at the upper Dungeness Trailhead and hike through old growth forests to Royal Basin and then through upper Royal Basin. Summiting this peak will take different amounts of snow travel or scrambling depending on times of the year and the snowpack level.

Description

This is a beautiful and scenic paved trail along the Sugarland Run Valley.  The southern terminus of the trail is at the intersection with Washington &Old Dominion trail, between Fairfax County Parkway and Herndon Parkway.  The route crosses over the stream in many places, sometimes with bridges, and sometimes with fair-weather concrete pillars.  The trail is almost completely forested with lots of wildlife including turtles, foxes, herons and beavers.  The trail connects to many subdivisions via short side trails and also intersects with a similar trail, Folly Lick Trail, about 3 miles
