The Cape Fold Belt is a series of ridge lines of sandstone rock that hugs the southern tip of Africa. They once were the foothills to the Falklands plateau what stood higher than Everest before continental drift. The range gets its name from the unique way the rock has been bent like clay in places from the force of continents pushing up agains each other. This is also home to the Cape Floristic region which is the most biodiverse place in the world, holding 20% of Africa’s flora in 0.5% of Africa’s land mass.

Eine traumhafte Route auf den Spuren des Ötzi „Iceman“. Gestartet wird die Tour beim Archeopark in Unser Frau im Schnalstal. Von dort geht es vorerst leicht an und absteigend und teils entlang des Vernagt-Stausees bis nach Kurzras und weiter zur Schön Aussicht-Hütte auf 2842m. Anschließend besteigt man den höchsten Punkt der Strecke, den #IcemanÖtziPeak 3251m.

Start in the new parking lot just by the main fire road. Follow the dirt road until the suspended bridge that crosses the river. Follow the rock/dust path and keep left at the junction. Trail becomes more of an actual trail now with roots, rocks and smooth sections. The uphill portion starts almost at the end with several wooden stairs (new addition, too bad they built that) to avoid the erroded rocky climb. After the stairs end theres just a bit of elevation to gain on mostly rocky trail up to the summit. Beautyful summit 360 view.
