Description

Description

This is one of the three out and back routes that summit the highest point in Georgia (Brasstown Bald). This is the Arkaquah trail. This route starts at the trail marker sign off of Trackrock Gap Rd. About a half mile before the turn around you exit the trail and you will cross the Brasstown parking lot and enter the small paved trail that leads you to the lookout tower. I set the summit turn around point at the base of the look out tower stairs. (The first set of stone ones) I did this to keep us from getting tangled up in the tourists checking out the tower it’s self.

Start at the entrance of the national park, go up the asphalt road and after 100m take a left. Another 100m and take a right into the trail (there is a sign). Follow the yellow markings for 2km of undulating terrain. At the end of the path take a right and immediate left at the parking of the climb. There the single-track starts, which will get increasingly steep and technical. There is only a single trail, marked by yellow signs. At the end of the trail you will need to use hand and feet to scramble a bit up the head of the mountain.

The short variant runs around the Sassolungo and does not include the Sassopiatto massif. Being a complete loop, you can theoretically start from any point along the path. Here we document the classic tour, which starts from Passo Sella.

The tour begins by following trail nr. 525 towards the Forcella del Sassolungo, located at an altitude of 2,685m/8,612 ft. This first section is very beautiful, but also steep and challenging. If you want to take it easy, you can take the cableway to the top!
