Description

The Shale Trail is a 16 mile walking, running and cycling route between West Calder and Winchburgh, via the Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston and the Broxburn using the Union Canal.  The trail passes through several historical shale mining towns.

The surface of the path route is also variable ranging from small sections of woodland track which will become muddy to sections of tarmacked path.

Description

One of the long distance routes in Belgium that links the capital Brussel with Luik in the Ardennen region. It starts right in the center of Brussel as a tourist trip in the town connecting the parks of the city. Next is a passage trough the large forest region next to Brussel (Zoniënwoud). After that a long stretch of light hills with a variation of agriculture and small forest sections. The last 30 kms runs parallel to the river 'de Maas', connecting the many very nice valleys. The finish is in Luik, which is certainly worth a visit, the train station is an extra.
