Lake Michigan Circumnavigation (MI, WI, IN, IL)

Description

Circumnavigation route of Lake Michigan.

Lake Michigan is the third largest lake in the United States and borders four states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana. Lake Michigan is also the only Great Lake located entirely in the United States.

Note that the route is up to you, and you just need to circumnavigate the lake, and start and end at the same spot.  The route on our map shows one option that generally stays close to the lake, but clearly is not the shortest route.

Description

North Shore classic with a couple of moderate scrambling sections from Crown Pass.  Start at the Grouse Grind/BCMC gate and begin up the routinely busy Grouse Grind trail. After 3km and +800m of Grind you gain the chalet.  Go right of the stairs that lead to the Grouse Grind timer to bypass the chalet.  A paved path takes you to the base of the peak chair.  Then follow a gravel road that skirts to the left contouring across the west side of Grouse Mountain to the Dam Mountain/Grouse col.
