Lakes Peak Western Approach (CO)

Submitted by mateoruns on Sat, 08/12/2023 - 04:11pm
Description

Just like it's near neighbor Garner Creek, this Major Creek approach is challenging at first due to the very wet conditions in the swampy basin. Then the grade almost instantly switches to very steep with narrow switchbacks up to the saddle yielding difficult route finding at times. The scree scramble from the saddle to Lakes Peak is quite challenging but definitely manageable. The hardest section of this route is likely descending the scree. Once back in the saddle, it's cruise control through the same mess!

Description

Among the top 500 highest peaks in Colorado, London Mountain sits somewhat alone, seperating the Mosquito Creek Basin to the east and northeast from American Flats and the South Mosquito Basin to the southwest.

This route starts from the hostel Pic de l'Àliga and goes to the summit of Torreneules through the shortest path, the way down it's the same for going up.
