Eglish Heritage Trail

A great many delights await the visitor to Eglish, Co. Tyrone. It is a land of drumlins, of small fertile fields, of rivers, woodlands and lakes. Significant historical events were played out here down through the years. Its sacred sites and wells have a history older than Christianity – they have rested humbly, undisturbed and unobtrusively, in unexpected places, over centuries. Its roads, buildings, hedges and bridges speak of the work that moulded the ancient land over centuries to the service of man.

To establish the Bent Creek Rim route, I started at the Bent Creek River Park. Located on the southeast corner of the intersection of Brevard Rd. (NC-191) and E. Frederick Law Olmsted Wy. I left the through the parking lot entrance to Brevard road and headed right on the road towards Bent Creek Ranch Rd. Turned left on Bent Creek Ranch Rd and continued to follow it right at the intersection with Wesley Branch Rd. Three tenths of a mile from Brevard Rd. Bent Creek Ranch Rd. then ends at Pole Creasman Rd. where I took a left an followed it till taking a right on Holly Ln.

The North Ridge of Mt. Tom is THE classic non-technical ridge of the Eastern Sierra. Mt. Tom dominates the Bishop skyline and the north ridge is the obvious, esthetic line that winds it way down right of the summit as viewed from Bishop. This is a rite of passage for any mountain athlete that calls Bishop their home, and it's no easy pickens.
