Dear internet, tomorrow morning at 5am I Troy “Tortuga” Allen and Mikaela “Flyby” Osler will be attempting the set the Unsupported record for the Connecticut section of the AT. We will carry our own food and water.
?????????
Mikaela Osler and I finished the route on Wednesday 6/12/19. We started at 4:58am and finished at 9:06pm.
Hello, my name is Drew Humphreys. Today (Wednesday, June 12, 2019) I ran from the pavement of Hoyt Rd (6:50 AM) to the Sages Ravine Brook crossing (6:58 PM) in about 12 hours and 8 minutes. That’s the whole CT section of the AT I believe. This was partially supported, since my brother was running with me for the first 22 miles, and he spent some of that time carrying my small pack. Two days ago (Monday), I personally left bags of food and water at 10 different road crossings along the trail.
I tracked most of it on a GPS watch, but it ran out of battery at 4:10 PM. I have it tracked to that point, then took two time-stamped smartphone videos near the end. One was coming down Bear Mountain into Massachusetts (in case the real CT/MA border is used), and one was when I got to the Sages Ravine crossing and the CT:MA sign, and I crossed the brook.
The true CT/MA border, before the trail gets all the way down into Sages Ravine, was more like 11 hours and 59 minutes.
Will this not work as an official record if I use these? I’m expecting it to not be acceptable. Thanks anyway.
Good luck to Tortuga and Flyby, our paths crossed 3 different times and they told me about these records on this site. Thanks a lot guys.
On Monday May 31st, Myself, Nick Curelop and Mike Spitzer will attempt a mixed gender supported FKT. It will be hot I'm thinking! Can't wait to get going and log our gpx. files post run and post pics! See some of you out on the trails and well done to those of you who have completed it. Last year I did the MA section, in September, supported, in 29 hrs and 58 minutes. Slowly working my way through each State. Best of luck to everyone with their FKTs this year!
March 19th I’ll be starting the trail at 6am and attempting to run it supported for time. Check back in later.
Hi folks, tomorrow August 7, I'll be making an attempt on this route. Cheers, Jana
Hi folks! All of the streams were dried up and therefore I didn't have enough water so I cut it short. Will try again. Next time, double check the drought monitor before attempting: https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?Nort… Happy trails!
Howdy! Tomorrow (5/13/24) I will be attempting an unsupported FKT of this route. Just gonna take it slow and see how it goes!
Decided to give my body some more rest (ran a 50k last weekend LOL) and push this effort to another day!
Greetings! Tomorrow, June 15, 2024, Reed Williams and I will be attempting a new non-binary supported FKT. Starting at 5:30am from Hoyt Rd. Looking forward! - Miche
Reed and I started the trek at 5:37 am Saturday June 15th. It had rained the day before, so the air was cool and the ground damp. A little slippery, not too hot in most places.
Our teammates and friends, Ais, Mylo, and Kristi supported us with snacks and hydration along the way. Mylo and Ais ran with us for about 6 miles each. They met us at the Massachusetts border at the end to walk us out.
We got to Bear Mountain later than anticipated, making the last 6 miles much more challenging in the dark. We lost the trail at one point and accidentally went south. We realized our mistake and headed north again. I stopped the watch at the Sages Ravine sign past the border.
In spite of coming in much later than projected, we had a great experience. Enjoyed the beautiful scenery, learned a lot, and above all, loved sharing an adventure with awesome friends.
Hopefully other non binary athletes will come run the segment and set a faster FKT!
Hi Trail Friends, This weekend on 9/28/2024 Carmen Cramer and I will be making an attempt on this unsupported NOBO. Last time I tried this I did a lot of things wrong and I'm sure I'll do a lot of things wrong again, but through your helpful descriptions, I think we'll find some success. Either way, it'll be a beautiful day on the trail!
