Great Basin NP Traverse (NV)

Description

Start at the northern border or Great Basin National Park, travel the ridge/crest of the Snake Range to the park's southern border, then traverse Highland Ridge Wilderness and end at the southern wilderness boundary.

No doubt, many have crossed this crest in a similar fashion, but it was a joy to dive into Caltopo and plan this line. To add to the traverse of the national park, we extended the route across Highland Ridge Wilderness, which seemed to be a logical place to end. Plus, when drawn on the map, it created a very satisfying visual across public lands.

Paddy-Go-Easy/Sherpani/Granite Traverse (WA)

Description

The valley of the Cle Elum River and Deception Creek, and the ridge above it immediately to the east, are the dividing line between the Alpine Lakes "Home Court" area and the Wenatchee Mountains "Back Court". From this ridge, you are presented with grand scenery to the west of the forests and glaciers of Mt. Daniel and its surroundings, and of the high alpine rock of the Stuart Range, the Teanaway, and the Chiwaukum to the east.

Flat Rock Trail, Colonel Denning State Park (PA)

Description

Colonel Denning State Park in Newville, Pennsylvania is the location of this challenging, technical Up & Down. Colonel Denning wasn't even a real Col., he was a Sergeant. Pretty hilarious. These are some of the best mountain trails that PA has to offer, as it is part of the Tuscarora State Forest and the Appalachians. Beginning at the TH just before the campground, the FKT route is an out & back of the Flat Rock Trail to Flat Rock Vista (you must go to the lookout point.) *CAUTION* this trail gets very icy in the colder months.
