From Death Canyon Trailhead take the Death Canyon trail over Phelps Lake overlook and continue west (straight) into the canyon at the Phelps Lake turnoff. Continue up the Death Canyon switchbacks and onward until you reach the trail cabin which will be to the left of the trail. At the cabin take a right turn onto the Alaska Basin trail towards Static divide. Continue up this trail until you reach the divide. 50-100m past the sign for the divide will be a turnoff for the trail to Static Peak.
