Description

The Wiouwash State Trail is a mostly flat, gravel and dirt trail built on a former railroad bed and has been converted from "rails to trails". The trail is named after the four counties it runs through: Winnebago, Outagamie, Waupaca, and Shawano. The southern trail section covers nearly 23 miles from the city of Hortonville in the north to Oshkosh in the south. The trail passes through many farm fields, tall grass prairies, several wet lands/marshes, and offers scenic views of Lake Butte des Mortes and the Fox River, ending near the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus.

Description

Starting from Emsworth train station (nice start/end point) head south and complete the loop of Thorney Island. Either direction, as the elevation will be similarly which ever way you travel as the route is very flat. The island is also home to an RAF base

“Public access to the island is strictly limited to the footpath that runs around the foreshore (the Sussex Border Path). It is possible to walk either way around the island, as both directions offer interesting and varied perspectives. The path is clearly waymarked around the island; the waymarker sign is a curlew”

Description

The border landscape between Damme, Sluis, Aardenburg and Maldegem is strung together by the Maerlant route. The region is a succession of old salt marshes that were reclaimed and reclaimed with dikes and canals. For centuries, the Zwin was the artery of old harbor towns such as Damme, Sluis, Aardenburg and Middelburg. The walls, ramps and fortresses on your route are traces of this.
